PHILOSOPHY
Gateway Fairport Nursery believes that play is the foundation for learning. Children need to be given opportunities to explore, create, problem-solve, pretend through play. Nursery School is a time for children to learn and explore the world around them while being in a group setting with adults who are not family members. At Gateway you will see both tangible and non-tangible results of your child’s learning. All of these things are so important and we want to help nurture and develop the whole child.
TANGIBLE LEARNING
- Stronger or more refined fine motor skills
- Knowledge of the alphabet, numbers, shapes
- Ability to share a synopsis of science experiences or daily activities
- Ability to retain songs and poems
- Ability to follow multiple step instructions
NON-TANGIBLE LEARNING
- Gained Social-Emotional Confidence
- Gained Self-Control
- Being able to Self-Regulate
- Following simple directions
- Gaining a sense of self and ability to make choices during free time

ABOUT ME…
My name is Wendy Tome. My husband David and I have purchased Gateway and are looking forward to continuing the long standing history of excellence in Early Childhood Education. I have a Bachelor’s of Art in Psychology and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Prior to starting my family I worked in many areas of Early Childhood. I have run child care centers, after school programs, and worked as a curriculum developer for a local preschool program. With over 20 years of experience in Early Childhood, I’m looking forward to utilizing my education and skills at Gateway Fairport Nursery Inc.
